Bug Creature Rig & locomotion (Maya)
Rig of a mutated bug-like creature. You can use it for any type of your own projects (commercial or non-commercial). Credit is appreciated.
The rig is compatible with game engines such as Unity or Unreal.
- Bones are named according to the Unreal Engine naming convention
- Twist joints are separated from the hierarchy to avoid issues with 180-degree flips
- Special root joint & root control were added
- Volume compensation & individual scaling are disabled to avoid evaluation issues
The model is a quick sculpt put through Zremesher, kindly provided by awesome 3d artist Jeroen Theeuwen. No textures included.
Mostly, the rig can be useful for educational purposes if you'd like to learn how to create locomotion systems or do some practice with unusual characters.
With the rig, you will find FBX files of the model and animations (will be updated over time):
- simple idle
- turns on spot (L45, L90, L135)
- start forward
- movement cycle
The rig was made in Advanced Skeleton in Maya 2022. Should be compatible with Maya 2022 or higher.
(In 2022, Autodesk added a new skin cluster thing, so to make it work in older Maya versions, you'd have to import an FBX model and copy-paste skin weights using an old skin cluster.)
